People all over the world love their movies because they are made with great care. The studio wants to make high-quality films that stand out. They even chose a name that means a strong wind. This name comes from a warm desert wind in the Sahara. It is also the name of an Italian plane called the Caproni Ca.309. The creators wanted to blow a new wind through the animation industry.

Making these films is a big job that takes a lot of energy. The studio works hard to never compromise on the quality of their stories. They use many different steps to bring their ideas to life. This includes sketching storyboards and inking the drawings. Artists also spend time painting and choosing the right voices for the characters. A composer named Joe Hisaishi often writes the music for these films. This music helps tell the story and makes the movies feel special.

The studio was founded on June 15, 1985. Three people started it together. These were directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. They also worked with a producer named Toshio Suzuki. They had worked together long before this, starting as far back as 1968. They started the studio after the success of a film called Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Later, the studio became its own independent company in 2005.

Studio Ghibli has made many famous characters and hit movies. One of the most recognizable characters is Totoro. Totoro is a giant spirit from the 1988 film My Neighbor Totoro. He was inspired by animals like cats and raccoon dogs. Other very successful films include Princess Mononoke from 1997 and Spirited Away from 2001. Spirited Away was a huge success, making over US$380 million worldwide. The studio has won many big prizes. They have won two Academy Awards and one Golden Globe Award.

Fans of the studio can visit many special places. There is a Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo. It has exhibits and shows short films you cannot see anywhere else. In April 2022, a special theme park called Ghibli Park opened. These places let people feel like they are part of the stories. The studio's work connects people through art and imagination. Even as leaders change, the studio continues to be a major part of the animation world.
