This is not a legal sport. It is very different from drag racing on a track. Some people race to show off their fast cars. Others join a scene to meet new friends.

In Japan, some racers use mountain passes. They call these roads tōge. Other racers do sprints. These are long races from one place to another. One famous type was the Cannonball Run.

Street racing is very dangerous. Drivers often do not use safety gear. They do not have roll cages to protect them. This can lead to bad crashes. People can get hurt or die. Bystanders can also be in danger.

Many countries have strict laws against it. In Brazil, police can take cars away. In Canada, a driver can go to prison for a long time. Some groups try to teach people to race safely on tracks instead. This helps keep everyone on the road safe.
