People use cars, motorcycles, boats, and even planes. These events have different rules. We call these rules disciplines.

Some races happen on smooth tracks. This is called circuit racing. Drivers go around the same track many times. Some cars have only one seat. These are called single-seater cars. Formula One is a very famous type of this racing. There is also Formula E. These cars use electric power instead of gas.

Other races happen on dirt or sand. This is off-road racing. One big race is the Baja 1000. Drivers race across the desert. Some races use different machines too. There is even lawn mower racing!
