The government took many children from their families. These children were part of the first people of the land.

Leaders sent the children to live in new places. Some lived in homes run by churches. These places were often far away from home.

They wanted the children to live in a new way. The children were taught to do different jobs. Boys worked on farms. Girls worked in homes.

This was very hard for the children and families. Many people were separated for a long time. It was a very sad time in history.

Later, leaders said they were sorry.
