In 1970, he started a new path. He wanted to study UFOs. These are unidentified flying objects. He often called them "flying saucers." He was a very busy researcher. He gave talks at over 600 colleges. He spoke in 50 states and 19 other countries. He also wrote more than 80 papers.

Friedman believed that intelligent life might live in space. He thought these beings might visit Earth. He studied the Roswell incident. He believed a spacecraft had crashed there. He also studied secret government papers. He wanted to find the truth using facts.

Many scientists did not agree with him. They were called skeptics. Friedman liked to debate these people. He even won a bet with a skeptic. He proved a point about how letters were typed. He died in 2019 while traveling home from a talk.
