Stanley Cohen was a famous thinker. He studied how people live together. He was born in South Africa in 1942. Later, he moved to England to study.

Cohen studied how the news affects people. He wrote a big book in 1972. He used the term moral panic. This happens when the media overreacts to a problem. This reaction can make the problem seem even bigger. This idea changed how experts study crime.

He also cared about human rights. He wanted to stop unfair treatment. He worked with groups to fight against torture. In 1980, he moved to Israel. He led a school for crime study there.

Later, he moved back to England. He taught at the London School of Economics. He wrote about how people ignore truth. He called this "states of denial." This is when people choose not to see suffering. He wanted people to see the truth. He hoped this would help change the world.
