In his books, he often wrote about aliens. He wondered if humans could ever truly talk to them. He also wrote about smart machines and robots. One famous book, Summa Technologiae, was about big ideas. In it, he thought about things like virtual reality. He also thought about artificial intelligence, which are smart computers.

Lem's books were a big hit. They have been sold in over 45 million copies. People have translated his work into more than 50 languages. This was hard to do. He often made up his own new words. He used these words to play with language. In 2021, Poland named it the Stanisław Lem Year to honor him. He lived through many hard times in history. He worked as a mechanic and a welder during the war. Later, he studied medicine but did not become a doctor. He chose to focus on his writing instead.
