These shrimp dig burrows in mud or sand. They stay in their holes during the day. They come out at night to hunt. They also come out in winter to mate. They eat many things like crabs and squid. They even eat algae.

In the spring, females lay eggs. They use a sticky liquid to hold eggs to their legs. The mothers stay in their holes to care for them. They do not eat during this time. The eggs hatch into tiny larvae. These young shrimp float in the water. They grow through ten molts. A molt is when a shrimp sheds its old shell. Soon, they settle on the sea floor.
