Between the years 1500 and 1600, Spain changed how it built things. This was the Spanish Renaissance. It was not just one style. Instead, it was a mix of many ideas.

One style was called Plateresque. This name comes from the word for a silversmith. The stone patterns look like fine silver work. They are very detailed and pretty.

Another style was Mudéjar. This style mixed Christian ideas with Islamic art. It used shapes and patterns from Muslim cultures. Builders used artesonado, which means wooden ceilings with complex designs.

Some builders also brought ideas from Italy. They used new shapes like domes. They also used frescoes, which are paintings made on walls. Architects like Diego de Siloé traveled to Italy. He brought these new ways back to Spain.
