Song Yu was a famous poet from the state of Chu. He lived in China a very long time ago. He lived during the rule of King Xiang of Chu. We do not know many facts about his real life. Most stories about him are just tales.

Song Yu wrote many poems. Some of his work is in a book called the Verses of Chu. This book is also known as the Chu Ci. He wrote poems called fu. A fu is a special kind of poem. These poems use many words to describe things. Some people say he wrote a poem called Zhao Hun. This means "Summons of the Soul."

Song Yu had a unique style. He wrote about the beauty of nature. His poems often show a sense of sadness. This helped shape how later poets wrote. Many Chinese sayings used today come from his work. Even though we are not sure he wrote every poem, his name stays famous. People often link his name with the poet Qu Yuan. They call them "Qu-Song."
