Snapchat is a social media app for phones.

It lets people send photos and short videos. These messages are called "snaps." Most snaps disappear after a friend sees them. This helps people share real moments without worry. They do not have to look perfect every time.

Users can add drawings or fun stickers to snaps. They can also use augmented reality. This is a way to add digital objects to the real world. People use "Stories" to show what they do for a whole day. You can also save photos in a private spot. This spot is called "My Eyes Only." It uses a PIN, or a secret code, to stay locked.

Three students from Stanford University made the app. Their names are Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown. It first came out in 2011. In 2016, the company made smartglasses called Spectacles.
