WeChat is a very large mobile app. It was made by a company called Tencent. It first came out in 2011. Many people call it a "super-app." This is because it does many different things.

You can use it to send text messages. You can also send voice notes. This feature works like a walkie-talkie. The app lets you share photos and videos. You can even play games on it.

WeChat also helps people pay for things. This is called WeChat Pay. It works like a digital wallet. You can use it to pay bills or buy goods. In 2014, a feature called "red envelopes" became very popular. This let people send digital money to friends.

There are two versions of the app. The Chinese version is called Weixin. It has different rules for what people can post. The app also tracks user activity in China. The WeChat version is for people outside of China. It has different rules for privacy. For example, data for users in Europe is stored in the Netherlands. In 2018, WeChat became the largest standalone mobile app in the world. It had over 1 billion monthly users.
