Some gods rule the bright day. Other gods rule the dark night. Some gods are even linked to the stars. People also believe in gods of the sun and moon. These are called luminary deities. Some faiths have gods for the wind or the clouds too.

Many sky gods are seen as kings. People often call them "sky fathers." These gods might lead all the other gods. Sometimes, a sky goddess is the queen of the gods. In ancient times, some were called the Queen of Heaven.

Sky gods often live in an "upper world." This is a place high above the earth. This is different from the underworld. In Greek stories, Zeus ruled the sky from Mount Olympus. The god Hades ruled the underworld instead. Different cultures around the world have their own sky gods. They use many different names for them.
