The island is mostly covered in green pine trees. Many people visit to see the sixty sandy beaches. Most of these beaches are near the coast. Some areas have gentle slopes. Other parts of the island are rugged and rocky. The highest point is a peak called Mount Karafiltzanaka.

The main town is called Skiathos Town. It sits on the eastern side of the island. There is also a pretty church there.

This church was built in 1837. Long ago, the island was famous for building ships. This was because there were so many pine trees. Today, many people fly to the island. They land at the Skiathos International Airport. The airport is near a lagoon. You can even watch planes take off from very close up. Visitors use buses to reach the many beaches.
