Long ago, many of these lands used Chinese characters for writing. Japan, Korea, and Vietnam later made their own ways to write. For example, Korea created a system called hangul.

Many things in daily life are similar too. People in these lands often use chopsticks to eat.

Rice is a very important food for everyone. In many places, the word for cooked rice is the same as the word for food. People also share many arts. They might use silk for clothes or practice martial arts. Some people enjoy the lion dance. This dance uses a lion costume to bring good luck. Many of these traditions happen during the Lunar New Year. This is a big and happy time for many people in the Sinosphere.
