This war happened because of a border dispute. Both countries claimed the same land. One area was Aksai Chin. China built a road there to connect two of its regions. This road helped lead to the conflict.

The fighting took place in high mountains. The air was thin and very cold.

The freezing weather was very hard on the soldiers. Many troops suffered from the extreme cold. The war was fought only on land. No ships or planes were used in the fight.

China moved into areas claimed by India. They took control of parts of the border.
