Orienteering is a sport that tests both physical strength and mental focus. Athletes must navigate through natural terrain using a map. They compete in several distinct formats. Sprint races are very short and require high speed. Middle distance races require a balance of speed and careful navigation. Long distance races test an athlete's endurance over much greater stretches of land. Finally, the relay is a team event where several runners work together.
