These bugs do not have wings. They are very fast runners. They like to stay in dark and wet places. You might find them in a kitchen or a bathroom. They can even live in old books. Silverfish eat things like paper, glue, and sugar. They can digest cellulose. This is a part of paper that they can turn into food. They can live for a year without eating if they have water.

Silverfish grow in a special way. They moult many times. Moult means they shed their old skin to grow. They may shed their skin 17 to 66 times. They even moult after they are adults.
