Shudraka was a writer from ancient India. He wrote plays in a language called Sanskrit. His most famous play is The Little Clay Cart. He also wrote two other plays. One was called Vinavasavadatta. The other was a short play called Padmaprabhritaka.

People are not sure if Shudraka was a real person. Some think he was a mythical figure. Other stories say he was a wise king. One theory says he was a king from the Abhira group. This king may have lived a long time ago.

One story says he was very smart. He knew math and how to train elephants. He also knew many holy books. Some legends say he was a patron of literature. This means he helped and supported other writers.

There are also stories about lost books. These books were called Shudraka-katha. They were stories about his life. One story says he won the love of a woman named Vinaya-vati. Another story had a heroine named Harimati. In that story, an old parrot was her messenger. These tales help us learn about the stories people told long ago.
