arts Maturity 9-11 Next article →

The Dashakumaracharita is an old book of stories. It was written in Sanskrit many years ago. It tells the tales of ten young men called the Kumaras. These men are the sons of princes and royal leaders.

The Kumaras study many things. They learn music, law, and medicine. They also learn how to fight. The men go on big trips to see the world. Some stories show them finding lost princes. Others show them saving their families from danger. One man uses magic eye paint to find hidden riches.

The book is special because of how it is written. One man named Mantragupta tells a story in a hard way. He cannot use certain sounds made with his lips. He must tell his tale without using those sounds. This is a type of constrained writing.

The book has many parts. It has a prologue, which is an opening part. It also has a main part with eight chapters. Some parts of the stories are lost. Others were added by different writers later. It is a grand book of many adventures.
