Shiloh was a very important ancient city and sanctuary. It was located in the West Bank, north of Jerusalem. Many people find this place special because of its history in the Hebrew Bible. It served as a main center for worship for a long time. This was during a time before the First Temple was built in Jerusalem. Today, we call the site Khirbet Seilun or Tel Shiloh.

According to the Hebrew Bible, the Tabernacle was kept at Shiloh. The Tabernacle was a portable tent used for worship. It held the Ark of the Covenant inside it. The Bible says the Israelites moved the tent there after they arrived in Canaan. People traveled to Shiloh on special journeys called pilgrimages. They went there for major feasts and to offer sacrifices. Some stories even say there were dances in the vineyards.

History shows that Shiloh has been around for a very long time. It was a walled city during the Middle and Late Bronze Age. This was hundreds of years before the Israelite period began. During the Iron Age, it became a religious center for the Israelites. The city faced many hard times and battles over the years. It was destroyed in the second half of the 11th century BCE. Later, the prophet Jeremiah used the ruins of Shiloh as an example.

Archaeologists have worked hard to learn about this ancient place. They have found many things like pottery and animal remains. They even found a large pile of pottery from animal sacrifices. This pile was found outside the city wall. Experts found more than 20 silos used for storing food. One silo even had carbonized wheat inside it. These finds help us see how people lived long ago.

Many different groups have lived near or at Shiloh through history. In the Byzantine period, there were ruins and a basilica. Later, the area was part of a Muslim land. Muslim pilgrims visited a mosque there called al-Sakina. They remembered the deeds of Jacob and Joseph at this site. Today, we can still see the remains of the city. It helps us connect what we read in books to the real world.
