As a tenor, he possesses a high male singing voice. Nazeri performs several distinct styles of music. These include classical Persian music and traditional Kurdish music. He is also known for singing Sufi music. This is a spiritual style of music. Nazeri achieved a major musical milestone by being the first musician to include the poetry of Rumi within Persian music. This act established a new tradition of Sufi music in both Kurdish and Persian classical traditions.

His musical journey began during his childhood. His mother was the first person to nurture his musical talents. After his early training, he studied under many renowned masters of Persian music. These teachers included Abdollah Davami, Nourali Boroumand, and Mahmood Karimi. Nazeri showed great skill at a very young age. He performed live on national Iranian television when he was only eleven years old. By the age of 29, he had already built a very loyal fan base.

Nazeri has had a long and productive career since the 1970s. He has released over forty different recordings to date. His early work in the late 1970s involved mutual albums with Mohammad-Reza Shajarian. These albums were published by the Chavoush institute. The content of these early recordings was filled with patriotic ideas and liberalism. One of his most significant commercial successes was the 1984 album titled The One Hundred-Petalled Rose, or Gol-e Sadbarg. This specific album holds the record for the highest-selling album in the history of Persian classical and Sufi music.

Throughout his career, Nazeri has collaborated with many masters of Iranian traditional music. These accomplished musicians include Jalil Shahnaz, Hossein Alizadeh, and Jalal Zolfonoun. He has also worked with Parviz Meshkatian and Faramarz Payvar. Music is also a family connection for him. He has worked alongside his son, Hafez, who is a composer. These collaborations have helped shape the sound of contemporary Iranian music.

Nazeri is an international performer who travels the world. He has performed at major global venues and festivals. These include the Festival of Avignon and the Tokyo Summer Festival. He has also appeared at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris. His global reach has earned him several prestigious honors. In 2007, he was named a Chevalier des Arts et Lettres by France. That same year, he received the Lifetime Cultural Heritage Award from the Asia Society. He also won the Simorgh award from the International Institute for Dialogue among Cultures and Civilizations.

Music often intersects with social and political issues. In 2014, Nazeri performed a concert in Kermanshah. During this event, he sang a Kurdish song with specific lyrics. The lyrics stated, "I am from Kermanshah, I don't speak Persian." This performance led to accusations of Kurdish nationalism and condemnation from Iranian authorities. In 2019, Nazeri made another significant decision regarding his performances. He cancelled his annual concert in Konya, Turkey. He did this because of the Turkish offensive into Rojava in Syria. He stated he wanted to show solidarity with the suffering of Kurdish men, women, and children in Syria.

Nazeri views music as a tool for peace and humanity. He believes the poet Rumi serves as a voice for human conscience. In his statement regarding the Konya concert, Nazeri noted that Rumi is a herald of peace and friendship. He explained that Rumi composed seventy thousand couplets of lessons regarding goodness and love. For Nazeri, music is not just about sound, but about expressing these deep human values. He continues to use his platform to reflect on the importance of compassion in the world.
