Seth is a very important figure in several major religions. He is known as the third son of Adam and Eve. In the Hebrew Bible, he is listed as a sibling to Cain and Abel. Many people believe Seth was born after Abel was killed by Cain. Because of this, Eve believed God gave Seth to her as a replacement.

This makes him a central part of many family stories. He is often seen as a bridge between the first humans and the rest of the world.

Different traditions describe how Seth lived his life. In some Jewish stories, Seth and Eve traveled to the Garden of Eden. They wanted to ask for special oil from the Tree of Mercy. On their journey, a wild beast bit Seth, but he made it go away. Some accounts say Adam gave Seth secret teachings late in his life. These teachings are sometimes linked to a tradition called the Kabbalah.

The historian Josephus wrote that Seth was a man of excellent character. He also said Seth's descendants used science to study the stars.

Many different groups hold special beliefs about Seth. In Islam, he is respected as a righteous prophet. Some scholars believe he received the very first holy scriptures. He is also credited with teaching people how to perform night prayers. In the Christian tradition, he appears in the family tree of Jesus. The Armenian Apostolic Church even has a special feast day for him on July 26.
