A waiter at a restaurant is one example. Doctors and lawyers also provide services.

Services are different from goods. You can hold a good in your hands. You cannot hold a service. It is an act or a performance. This means you cannot store it for later. A service is made and used at the same time.

Services can change every time. A taxi ride is never exactly the same. The driver or the route might change. This makes every service unique.

Some services happen in a specific place. A coffee house is a place for service.

You might go there to get a drink. Other services are public. This means a whole nation pays for them. Schools and libraries are public services. They help everyone in a community.

Many jobs involve services. Mechanics fix cars. Gardeners work in yards. Banks help people with money. These workers use their skills to help others.
