In economics, goods are things that provide value to people.

Most goods are scarce. This means they take effort or resources to make. Air is a free good because it is not scarce.

Some goods are tangible. You can touch an apple. Other goods are intangible. You cannot hold news in your hands.

There are different ways to group goods. Private goods are very common. You can stop people from using them if they do not pay. They are also rival goods. This means if you eat an apple, no one else can.

Public goods are different. A lighthouse is a public good. It helps everyone, and you cannot stop people from using it.

Club goods are also unique. A toll road is a club good. You must pay to use it, but one person using the road does not stop others.

Finally, common-pool resources are shared. Fish in the ocean are a good example.
