Seku Amadu was a leader of the Fulbe people. He lived in a place called the Inner Niger Delta. This area is now part of the country of Mali.

Long ago, different groups ruled the land. Some groups were traders. Others were kings. Amadu wanted to change how people practiced their faith. He led a movement called a jihad. This was a fight to spread Islamic ways. Many people joined him. Some were looking for freedom.

Amadu won many battles. He took control of towns like Djenné. In 1819, he built a new capital city. He named it Hamdullahi. This name means "Praise God."

He ruled as the leader of the Massina Empire. He made many strict rules. He banned things like tobacco and music. He also built 600 madrasas. These were schools for learning. Amadu also helped people in need. He made a system to care for orphans and the poor. He even made rules to help cattle herders and farmers share the land. He ruled until he died in 1845. His son took over after him.
