This meeting is called the Second Vatican Council. Pope John XXIII called the meeting in 1962. He wanted to update the Church. He wanted to make it easier to understand. He also wanted to connect with the modern world.

Leaders met every autumn until 1965. They met at St. Peter's Basilica. Some leaders wanted to keep old ways. Other leaders wanted to try new ways. In the end, the new ways won. The council made sixteen important documents. These papers shared new ideas for the Church. One idea was to study the Bible more. Another idea was to use local languages during Mass. This helped people join in the service more fully.

The council also looked at the whole world. Leaders talked about peace and hunger. They wanted to help solve big problems. Pope Paul VI led part of the meeting too.
