Scientists use special tools to learn about the world. These are called scientific instruments. They help people study nature. They also help with research.

Tools can be many shapes and sizes. Some are very simple. You might use a ruler or a scale. You might use a thermometer to check heat. Other tools are very large. Radio-telescope antennas are huge. Particle colliders are also very big.

Some new tools are tiny. Some are too small to see with eyes. These use nanoscale technology. That means they work at a very small scale. We even have tiny robots for biology.

In the past, makers built tools near schools. They worked near universities. They made tools for researchers to use. Some tools were also sold in shops.

Today, many tools use computers. Computers help scientists work faster. They help collect and save data. Data are facts or pieces of information. Some tools use the internet of things. This lets people check tools from far away. They can use a phone or a computer to see them.
