Many of these events are called mass shootings. This is because many people are hurt. The United States has had many of these shootings. Between 2009 and 2018, the U.S. had over 50 times more than other G7 nations. This has led to big debates about gun laws.

Experts look for reasons why this happens. Some shooters were bullied. In fact, 75% of school shooters had been bullied. Others may have mental health issues. Many shooters showed signs of mental illness. However, most people with mental illness are not violent.

Another factor is how people get guns. About 80% of guns used by young shooters came from a home. They might take them from a parent or relative.

It is also hard to guess who might do this. A long time ago, some thought shooters were all one type. Now, we know they come from many different backgrounds. Some had good lives at school. Others felt very lonely. It is a very complex problem to solve.
