Some roads are made just for tourists. The Blue Ridge Parkway is one example. Other roads were once main roads. People call them scenic after traffic leaves them. Some routes are multi-modal. This means you can use many ways to travel. You can drive, bike, or walk. You can even use a boat.

Some paths follow a theme. A theme is a special topic. One route follows a trail of old castles. Other routes show off wine or flowers. In the United States, some roads have special banners. These routes are often longer than the main road. U.S. Route 40 Scenic in Maryland is one such road. National Parkways are also special. They have park land on both sides of the road.
