A bicycle boulevard is a special kind of street. It is made for people riding bikes. These streets help keep riders safe and comfortable.

These streets are low-speed roads. They try to stop cars from driving through quickly. Most cars on these streets are just local drivers. Some roads use traffic calming tools to slow cars down. One tool is a diverter. A diverter is a barrier that makes cars turn. It lets bikes and people walk straight through.

Bicycle boulevards use signs to show where they start and end. Some use colors on the road too. In the Netherlands, the bike part is red.

Drivers can still use the road. They can use the part without color to pass a bike.

Many places use these streets. You can find them in the United States and Canada. They are also in many parts of Europe, like Germany and France. Even New Zealand has them! In the U.S., Palo Alto was the first city to build one. It was named after Ellen Fletcher. She was a famous bike activist.
