He is known as the founder of Singapore.

One story says he was hunting on Bintan island. He saw a stag and chased it to a hill. From a large rock, he saw a new island. It had white sand that looked like cloth. This island was called Temasek.

While sailing to the island, a big storm hit. The waves were huge and the ship took in water. To save the ship, he threw his crown into the sea. The storm stopped right away. He reached the island safely.

On the island, he saw a strange animal. It had a red body and a black head. He thought it was a lion. Because of this, he named the island Singapura. This name means "Lion City" in Sanskrit.

Some people wonder if these stories are true. They think the lion might have been a tiger. Some thinkers say the story is a legend. Even so, people believe a city was built there in the 1300s.
