Long ago, the Lapita people found these islands. They arrived about 3,500 years ago. These people were very good at sailing. Because of this, explorers called the islands the Navigator Islands.

Samoa has a long and busy history. In 1899, the German Empire ruled the islands. Later, New Zealand took control in 1914. After many years, Samoa became independent on January 1, 1962.

Today, Samoa is a democracy. It has 11 different areas for government. The islands were formed by volcanoes a long time ago. You can see beautiful nature there, like waterfalls.
