People love it because it brings them together. It is a way to celebrate and share culture.

There are many ways to perform samba. Some people dance in a circle called samba de roda. In Bahia, dancers use special steps to move. They use steps like "cut-the-jackfruit" and "pick-the-grape."

Musicians use many instruments to make the sound. They hit percussion instruments like the pandeiro or the surdo drum. They also play string instruments like the cavaquinho.

This creates a fast and rhythmic beat.

The history of samba goes back a long time. It has roots in West African musical traditions. In the 1800s, the word "samba" meant a popular dance. Some people used it to describe a circle dance.

Samba has changed a lot over the years. In the 1920s, people in the Estácio neighborhood changed the rhythm. They made it more drum-heavy and used a faster tempo.
