The Samanid Empire was a large land ruled by a Persian family. It lasted from the year 819 to 999.

The empire sat in parts of Central Asia and Iran. It began with four brothers named Nuh, Ahmad, Yahya, and Ilyas. Each brother ruled a different area.

Later, a leader named Ismail Samani took control. He united the lands under his own rule.

Ismail moved the capital to the city of Bukhara. Under his rule, the empire grew very strong. It reached far to the east and the west.

This was a bright time for art and science. Many smart scholars came to live there.

They wrote many books. The Samanids also helped the Persian language grow. They used Persian for their own culture. But they still used Arabic for religion and science. This helped mix different traditions together.
