Iranian Intermezzo

history Maturity 9-11 Next article →

The Iranian Intermezzo was a special time in history. It began about 170 years after Arab rule in Iran. This period lasted until the middle of the 11th century. During this time, many new ruling families took power. These groups helped bring back the Persian spirit. They also helped the Persian language grow strong. One famous writer, Ferdowsi, wrote a great book called the Shahnameh.

Many different groups ruled during these years. The Samanids were a big empire in Central Asia. They loved science and art. They even said that Persian was the language of their land.

Another group was the Buyids. They ruled much of Iran and Iraq. They used old titles like "king of kings."

Other groups like the Sallarids and the Hasanwayhids also held power. Some were Kurdish, and some were from the mountains.

This era ended when the Seljuk Empire rose to power.
