"text": "Salicaceae is a large and diverse family of flowering plants. It contains many different types of trees and shrubs. Most members of this family are found in temperate regions. Many of these plants are deciduous, meaning they lose their leaves every year. You can often identify them by their leaves. These leaves usually have an alternate arrangement on the stem. This means the leaves grow at different levels rather than directly across from each other.

\n\nOne of the most interesting ways to identify Salicaceae is by looking at leaf margins. Many species have edges that are serrate or dentate, which means they have teeth. Some of these species exhibit a very specific structure called a salicoid tooth. In a salicoid tooth, a leaf vein enters the tooth and then expands in width. This vein travels toward the apex, which is the very tip of the tooth. Near this tip, you will find small, spherical, and glandular protuberances called setae.
