Said bin Taimur was the Sultan of Muscat and Oman. He was part of the Al Bu Said ruling family. Said became the leader in 1932. He was only 21 years old then. His father, Taimur bin Feisal, stepped down because of money problems. Said took over a country that owed much money to Britain.

Said worked to make his country independent. In 1951, his land became a fully independent state. He also visited the United States. He met President Franklin D. Roosevelt at the White House.

Later, things became difficult for Said. He faced fights from groups inside his own land. He also made many strict rules for his people. He even kept his son, Qaboos, under house arrest. This meant Qaboos could not leave his home.

In 1970, a big change happened. Qaboos took power with help from the British. This was called a coup. Qaboos became the new leader. Said was sent to live in the United Kingdom. He lived there until he died in 1972. He was later buried in Oman.
