One chief was very famous. People believe he lived around the year 1600. Legend says he wanted to unite the tribes. He wanted to form an army. His time as leader was peaceful.

One day, his brother poisoned him. This was a very sad end. People did not use his name again. They were afraid of his spirit. His body was not buried in his home land. A French man found his grave in 1967. He used local stories to find it. The grave was on Eretoka island. It held the bodies of over 25 people. These people were part of his group.

In 2008, these sites became World Heritage Sites. This includes his home and his grave. These sites are on Efate, Lelepa, and Eretoka islands.
