He was a forward who became a major star on the world stage. Milla was one of the first African players to reach such fame. He played for his national team in three different World Cups. People loved him because he showed that skill can last a long time. Even when he was older, he played with great joy and energy. He is remembered as a hero in his home country.

Growing up, Milla did not have fancy soccer fields or coaches. He learned to play on the dirt streets of Yaoundé. Since there were no real soccer balls, he was very creative. He used oranges or tin cans to play with his friends. He even kicked lemons or rags tied together to make a ball. He played barefoot on dusty courts during his school vacations. These simple games helped him build his amazing skills.

Milla's journey to stardom was very surprising. He actually retired from international soccer in 1988 at age 36. Then, the President of Cameroon, Paul Biya, asked him to come back. The President saw him play in a charity match in Douala. After that, Milla rejoined the national team for the 1990 World Cup. He was 38 years old during that big tournament. Most players at that age have already stopped playing professionally.

During the 1990 World Cup in Italy, Milla became a legend. He scored four goals, often coming off the bench as a substitute. He helped Cameroon reach the quarter-finals, which was a huge achievement. This was the furthest an African team had ever gone in the tournament. When he scored, he ran to the corner flag to dance. His dance was similar to a style called the lambada. In 1994, at age 42, he scored again against Russia. This made him the oldest goalscorer in World Cup history at that time.

Many famous people have honored Milla's great talent. The legendary player Pelé named him one of the greatest living players. In 2007, experts named him the best African player of the last 50 years. He once held the record for most goals by an African player in the World Cup. Eventually, Asamoah Gyan from Ghana broke that specific record. Milla's life shows how much passion can change a person's story.
