He was one of the first big African stars in the World Cup.

As a boy, Milla played on dusty streets. He did not have real soccer balls. Instead, he used lemons or tin cans. He even kicked rags tied together. These simple games helped him learn to play well.

Milla became a hero in the 1990 World Cup. He was 38 years old. Most players retire by that age. Still, he scored four goals. He helped Cameroon reach the quarter-finals. This was the furthest an African team had ever gone. When he scored, he did a fun dance. He ran to the corner flag to celebrate.

He played again in the 1994 World Cup. He was 42 years old then. He became the oldest person to score in a World Cup. Pelé named him one of the best players ever. In 2007, experts named him the best African player from the last 50 years.
