Rodrigo was celebrated for his massive stage energy. He also possessed a unique charisma that drew large crowds. His physical style differed from typical cuarteto performers. Most singers wore long curly hair and bright colors. Rodrigo chose short, dyed hair and casual clothing. This distinct look helped him stand out. He is widely considered the most influential singer in the history of the genre.

Rodrigo's connection to music began in Córdoba, Argentina. His father, Eduardo Alberto Bueno, was a music producer. His mother, Beatriz Olave, was a songwriter. This environment allowed Rodrigo to enter the music scene very early. He appeared on the television show Fiesta de Cuarteto at age two. At age five, he recorded his first album, Disco Baby. He even practiced singing into a wooden microphone. This gift was handmade by his uncle, a carpenter. By age thirteen, he joined the band Manto Negro. This role provided him with his first professional musical salary.

His path to solo stardom involved several different musical stages. Initially, his 1990 debut album, La Foto de tu Cuerpo, featured a rock style. He later moved to Buenos Aires to find greater success. During a brief period with Sony Music, he recorded salsa and merengue. He also experimented with performing as a ballad crooner. However, he eventually decided to focus exclusively on cuarteto. This decision led to his massive national fame. His album, Lo Mejor del Amor, became a major radio hit. This success earned him an ACE Award for Best Musical Act.

Rodrigo achieved incredible commercial success with his later recordings. His album, La Leyenda Continúa, was certified gold by CAPIF. The album Cuarteteando also reached significant sales milestones. Each of these two albums sold 60,000 copies. His 1999 release, A 2000, reached even higher levels of success. This album was certified quadruple platinum by CAPIF. It sold a total of 750,000 copies. These numbers demonstrate his massive popularity across the Argentine national scene.

One of his most famous productions was the Cuarteto Característico Rodrigo A 2000 tour. These concerts took place at the Luna Park Arena starting in April 2000. The show featured a unique boxing theme. Rodrigo performed wearing boxing trunks and a robe. He entered the stage by walking through the crowd to a ring-themed set. The performances lasted approximately two and a half hours. The show was so popular that it sold out thirteen times. These concerts grossed a total of ARS 1.3 million.

Rodrigo maintained an extremely demanding professional schedule. He often performed between twenty-five and thirty shows every week. This workload included nightclubs, television appearances, and large concerts. For example, he once performed 49 concerts in only nine days. This intense pace had significant consequences for his health. He began consuming beer to excess due to the demanding tours. He also faced high stress from multiple death threats. These pressures led him to announce his impending retirement in April 2000.

Tragedy struck on June 24, 2000, following a concert in La Plata. While driving toward Buenos Aires, Rodrigo was involved in a car accident. His path was blocked by another driver on the turnpike. Rodrigo attempted to chase the vehicle to move in front of it. He lost control of his SUV and hit a barrier. He was killed instantly in the crash. His death caused a massive sensation in the Argentine media. A subsequent trial found the other driver not guilty. The judge ruled that Rodrigo had been driving imprudently.
