Robert Mills Gagné was a man who studied how people learn. He was born in 1916 in Massachusetts. As a student, he wanted to use psychology to help people. He studied at Yale and Brown universities.

During World War II, Gagné worked with the Army. He helped choose and sort pilots. Later, he worked with the Air Force. He studied how people learn motor skills. This means he looked at how people move their bodies to do tasks.

After the war, he taught at many colleges. He taught at Princeton and Florida State University. He wrote a famous book called Conditions of Learning.

He believed that learning is not just one thing. He said there are many types of learning. Some tasks use the mind to solve problems. Other tasks use the body to perform skills. Because of this, teachers must use different ways to teach.

He created nine steps to help learning happen. One step is to get the student's attention. Another step is to give feedback. This helps students know how they are doing. His work helps us design better lessons today. It even helps us learn using computers.
