He taught many students in Edinburgh, Scotland.

In the 1820s, it was hard to find bodies for study. Doctors mostly used bodies of people who had died by crime. Because there were not enough, some people did bad things. Two men, Burke and Hare, killed people to sell their bodies to Knox.

Knox did not kill them himself. However, many people were still very angry with him. They felt he should have known where the bodies came from.

Knox also had ideas about people that were not kind. He wrote about scientific racism. This is the wrong idea that some groups of people are better than others.
