It sits between your middle finger and your little finger. In many places, people wear wedding rings on this finger. This finger has many names in different languages. In some lands, it is called the "nameless finger." This is because it was used in old magic. In Japan, it is called the medicine finger. People used it to take powdered medicine. They thought it was the cleanest finger to use.

Long ago, people did not know how blood flows. They believed a vein ran from this finger to the heart. They called this the vena amoris, or the vein of love. Because of this, they put rings on this finger. This showed a couple's love for each other. Today, customs change by where you live. In the US and UK, people use the left hand. In many parts of Europe, people use the right hand. In some places, like Turkey, people move the ring hands later. Even musicians use this finger. In guitar music, the letter "A" stands for this finger.
