Some people call it the pinky or the baby finger. The word pinky comes from a Dutch word. It means little finger. Nine muscles help this finger move.

Some muscles are in the hand. Others connect to the finger from further up the arm.

People use this finger in many ways. In America, children make a pinky promise. They wrap their pinky around a friend's finger. In China and Korea, people do something similar. They link pinkies and stamp thumbs together.

Many people wear rings on this finger. A signet ring is a special ring. Many kings and queens wear them. In Canada, engineers wear an Iron Ring. They wear it on their little finger to show pride.

You might even use your pinky to hold a phone. It can act as a support while you type. Some people call this "smartphone pinky." Using a phone this way can leave small dents in the skin. These marks go away on their own after you stop using the phone.
