Register (music)

arts Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Music can be high or low.

This range is called a register. A violin plays in a high register. A cello plays in a low register.

This change can make a song grow. It can make a song feel strong. People use registers in their voices too. Some voices sound like a whistle. Other voices sound deep in the chest. Wind instruments use registers as well. A flute has different parts for its sounds. Some notes need more air to play. Each part has its own special sound. Music uses these ranges to tell a story.
