arts Maturity 7-9 Next article →

A melody is a tune.

It is a line of notes. We hear it as one song.

A melody uses pitch and rhythm. Pitch is how high or low a note sounds. Rhythm is how long a note lasts.

Melodies can be short or long. Some use small parts called motifs. A motif is a tiny piece of music. People often repeat it.

Different music uses melodies in new ways. Jazz musicians use a main melody to start. Rock music uses a verse and a chorus.

Melodies make music feel special. They help us remember a song. You can sing a melody too!
