The city has a very old center. It is shaped like a six-sided star. This shape comes from its ancient walls. Many buildings are from the 1500s and 1600s.

Reggio has a very long history. Long ago, it was a stop on a Roman road. Later, many different families ruled the city. One family, the House of Este, ruled for a long time.

The city is also part of Italian history. In 1797, women in Reggio sewed the first Italian flag. This flag has three colors. We call it the tricolour.
