The Red Sea is a large sea inlet.

It sits between the land of Africa and Asia. To the north, you will find the Sinai Peninsula. The sea connects to the Indian Ocean in the south. This happens through a narrow path called the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.

The water here is very warm and very salty. It is one of the saltiest seas in the world. This is because the air is hot and there is very little rain. Most of the area is near dry desert land.

Under the waves, there is a lot of life.

The sea has many shallow areas. These areas are full of colorful corals and marine life. There are over 200 types of coral living there. You might even see a sea turtle swimming by.

People have used this sea for a long time. Ancient Egyptians sailed these waters for trade. Long ago, a ruler named Darius the Great even built a canal. This helped ships move between the Nile River and the sea.
